Bird Rescued on Surrey Towers

A young peregrine falcon that was trapped on the roof of Surrey Towers in Addlestone is now safe and thriving, thanks to the quick actions of the Runnymede Borough Council’s control room team and a bird specialist.

The young falcon, a chick that was unable to return to its nest, was first spotted on CCTV by an experienced control centre operator. The operator alerted a colleague, who then contacted a trusted bird specialist. The control room team, working with the housing department, arranged for the specialist to gain safe access to the roof.

The falcon was recovered and cared for off-site before being successfully released back into the area a few weeks later. Since its return, the young peregrine has been seen regularly on CCTV near its original nest, often with its parents. This is a very positive sign that the rescue was successful and the bird has been reintegrated into its natural environment.
